Scott Walker is managing editor at The Birmingham News, Alabama's largest newspaper and primary partner of al.com, the state’s top Web site and leading media organization. A graduate of the University of Florida, Walker has more than 18 years of experience as an editor, designer and art director at daily newspapers and online.

In leadership positions and in hands-on roles, Walker has developed content and presentation in print and online for major story projects, launched several high-readership sections and implemented large-scale redesigns and technology changes.

Walker’s responsibilities include overseeing The Birmingham News’ sports coverage, which serves one of the most passionate college football fan bases in the nation. He also is responsible for editing, presentation and newsroom production, and he regularly guides reporters, editors, designers, artists and photographers on deadline.

The Birmingham News is home of the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting. In 2005 and 2006, Walker led The News to its first international awards for design and editing from the Society for News Design and Picture of the Year International competitions. The News has also been recognized with several Top 10 awards from the Associated Press Sports Editors as well as numerous state and regional journalism honors.
